Dr. Jeremy Gaines (born 1958, educated in Thailand, Turkey, Germany and the UK) is a writer and consultant lives in Frankfurt, Germany. He completed his doctorate on political philosophy in 1985 and held a number of academic positions at Frankfurt University before working for the German Bundesbank.
Since 1993 he has worked freelance as a consultant, writer, and corporate publicist, specifically in the fields of socio-economic development, sustainability and renewable energy. He is the author of over ten books, some of which have been translated into Arabic, French, and German.
As of 2005, he established and coordinated Intellectual Live8 in Berlin on behalf of Sir Bob Geldof prior to the Gleneagles and Heiligendamm G8 summits.
Since 2008 he has been German Coordinator of the Nigerian German Energy Partnership, liaising between the two countries at senior ministerial level on issues of power supply, energy security and renewable energy.
He has been involved in attempts to adapt Germany’s renewables model to the Global South and was co-lead on a project to develop a 500 MW solar power programme for North Nigeria and to introduce solar power to Nigerian federal universities. He has likewise advised on structuring analyses of Lagos as a megacity.
